There is not so much information about 3,5-Diiodo-L-tyrosine for it is not yet totally exposed in the market and only a few supplement manufacturers use it as their ingredients because it’s benefits are not yet totally discovered. It is out in the market in powder form.
What is 3,5-Diiodo-L-Tyrosine?
3,5-Diiodo-L-tyrosine is called in other names such as 3,5-Diiodotyrocine, 3,5-Iodo-L-tyrosine, 3,5-L-Diiodotyrosine, 4-Hydroxy-3,5-diiodophenylalanine,L-3,5-DiioDOTyrosine, L-Diiodotyrosine and iodotyrosine. Furthermore, it is categorized as an amino acid. This product is from the iodination of Monoiodotyrosine, an iodinated amino acid involved in the synthesis of thyroxine(T4) and triiodcothyronine (T3) and it serves as a modulator of thyroid peroxidase, an enzyme normally found in the thyroid gland that plays a critical role in thyroid hormones. In the production of complex molecules within cells of thyroid hormones (biosynthesis), diiodotyrosine residues are paired with some other monoiodotyrosine or diiodotyrosine residues which leads to the formation of thyroxine(T4), the main hormone produced by the thyroid gland acting to increase metabolic rate therefore regulating growth and development and triiodcothyronine (T3) which is a thyroid hormone that is the same with T4 but is considered more potent.
In some products, they used this ingredient because this helps in the regulation of thyroid. What is this thyroid regulation: Iodine is necessary in the production of T4 and T3 therefore lack of iodine in the diet can also limit the production of T4 which leads to hypothyroidism. In this case, the activity of the thyroid gland (production of T4 and T3) needs to be controlled because if the thyroid hormones level is not stable then it can lead to hypothyroidism. Then, they even combined it with a fat burner to help increase in the metabolic rate while keeping the system in higher capacity.
